about

Role of a Lifetime. The starring role? Maybe to myself, but this is about playing the role *of* a lifetime, which I've only just woken up to. This is an album about neurodivergence, The ADHD wanting to get everything done at once and the freshly discovered autism not knowing what order to do things. While I'm currently waiting on a professional opinion, if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, then it's the autism spectrum.

When I was younger, I was an actor, it was a passion, a fixation of my time that didn't just keep me occupied but taught me how to be a quote-unquote person. I learned something and adopted something from every character I played. And when I no longer had the time for acting on stage, I moved to writing, pouring what I learned onto the page in the hopes that I could teach myself something I missed, or get my own revenge on those who made fun of me because I was different, because I was weird. When the words ran out, I focused on video, and then visual art, and then graphic design. Aside from acting, I can cycle through these,

But I've always made music. Oceanview International Airport was born of loneliness and the fear I wouldn't see my family again. Leaves came out of what I realize now was an extended autistic meltdown that seriously damaged my relationships. Love Letters was a Valentine's Day present, made with love and not, you know, trauma. Role of a Lifetime was written between March and November 2022, using new hardware, actual hardware synths, and guitar effect pedals. This coincides with my fiendish habit of film photography. It came about from my wanting to see what I could do. I finally put the Big Muff to use, justifying my mid-life crisis purchase. If an instrumental album can be about anything, it's about growth and realization and how much transformation from what you thought you were and what you actually are hurts. And yes, there are a few songs you can dance to.

Also yes, the vocal sample bank I used is the one also used in FFXIV Shadowbringers. Because I'm a fucking nerd.
